Ethereal Fairy Brides for 2018- Anita Dongre’s Collection

If there is one thing that every twenty something young woman has dreamed of, is her wedding. The definition of a perfect fairytale wedding was put on display by Anita Dongre at Lakme Fashion Week 2018- the outfits were drenched in summery pastel colours with delicately embroidered flowers on the beautiful lehengas. Models walked down the ramp in exquisite yet light fabrics that are in complete contrast to what a traditional bridal dress is usually like.

Collection

Dongre’s Lakme Fashion Week collection was named as ‘Songs of Summer’ which was represented by a soothing palette of pistachio, baby blue, white, pale pink, and yellows. The embroidery, sheer dupattas, floral motifs were just as impressive as the choice of colours. From lehengas to anarkalis to sarees to straight cut salwar kameez- there was a huge variety to choose from. The show also presented a range of eco-friendly fabrics from the Reliance Industries as a part of the collection.

Setup

Instead of going for a basic and restricted runway which would have entirely killed the vibes of the elegant dresses, the venue was set at the terrace garden at the ITC Grand Central which was turned into an elaborate wedding setup. Additionally, models walked to the tune of soothing live music alongside warm lighting that set the perfect tone for the evening.

Eye Catching

Although the whole collection was worth crushing over, there were some eye catching pieces which remained stamped on the minds. The inward pallu drape on this stunning printed saree that was in a pale pink colour paired with a halter blouse was one of the best pieces. Using long capes over lehenga choli was also something that could be seen as making a statement. Men’s outfits too, paired with a chinese collar looked incredible especially because the colours were so incredibly feminine, yet the silhouette is so masculine. 

Stars

Because bollywood and Lakme fashion week go hand in hand, it isn’t surprising that a substantial number of celebrities came to support Dongre who is known to be one of India’s top designers. From names like Shamita Shetty and Sagarika Ghatge to Diana Penty, the grandeur of the show was increased by loads by the star studded guestlist.

Showstoppers

Dongre is certainly aware of how to make a show even more memorable. She did so by bringing the couple that has been so frequently talked about in the recent times- Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira Kapoor. Donned in a layered white sherwani, Shahid looked incredibly handsome and Mira looked absolutely ethereal in her white lehenga with baby blue and pink embroidery. Her delicate hairdo with white flowers added to the beauty and turned out to be one of the most memorable moments of the fashion week.
